Writing Prompts: Explore Senses in Character Development

Based on the interview I did with Sean McLachlan on Monday on Archeology and Authorship, featured on my podcast The Truth About Storytelling, I have a sensory writing prompt to share.

Imagine you (or your character) are walking down a busy street in a place you (or your character) are visiting. Use all your (your character’s) senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, taste for a sense of place.

And then, imagine what another character (or person) might notice about the busy street – something different than your main character (or you) might notice. The two characters interact over this difference… in some form or fashion.

And, how does this different perspective drive the story conflict or forward momentum?

Write as much or as little as you want. Grin or frown as you write. It’s your jam. Your writing voice. Your choice.

In today’s episode on the podcast, I share this prompt and more news about the prelaunch phase of The Dark Blade Kickstarter.
