This project started when I realized I had already written up over a hundred prompts for students to use in my classes. I expanded on these prompts and discovered it didn’t take me long to come up with over 500 short writing prompts. These went into my initial A Jumble of 500+ Writing Prompts book, which later became A Pocket-Sized Jumble of 500+ Writing Prompts. Even later, I added more to that book, so it is no longer quite pocket-sized, but I kept the title. In addition to the regular book, I created two Jumble Journals with prompts and space to write.

A Pocket-Sized Jumble of 500+ Writing Prompts
A Pocket-Sized Jumble of 500+ Writing Prompts is a book containing over 500 writing prompts.
These simple words or phrases on a blank sheet of paper can gather momentum as a creator wonders at what it could mean, where it could take place, why, and what if? What if the words “green turtle” aren’t referring to a turtle at all? What if it’s the shield formation for a group of space pirates? What if the phrase “green turtle” is on a sign post in the real world? Where would it lead? What does it mean? Who follows it?
This book contains over 500 simple writing prompts, all jumbled out of order so that each may stand alone to evoke a new story, a new poem, or a new reflection. These prompts may also be used as prompts for creative endeavors like art, film-making, and storytelling games.
Write, reflect, imagine, and let your creative journey take flight.
